Holiday and New Years Thoughts

– Posted in: Miscellaneous

Landing in The Newark Airport early Christmas morning, I am always somewhat pleasantly surprised when the custom officials say ‘Welcome home’ to me. My first reaction is to say ‘Thanks. It’s good to be back on U.S. soil’.

But over the past several years, I have found myself feeling something quite different: that I am ‘home’ wherever I am on this earth. I know that a statement such as this probably sounds trite and cliché.  Well, guess what? It’s true.I can be thousands of miles away from my home gazing at some amazing wildflowers miraculously growing in rocky terrain, in a lush tropical climate or in the center of a crowded, bustling city. Regardless of where I am though, I am always able to find some piece of nature that immediately fills me with a sense of ‘place’ and a gratefulness for the silent beauty that it bestows upon humankind so magnanimously. All of us at KapliPRO choose to participate in this blog because it gives us a sense that we are a part of an international community: a community of individuals who find deep meaning and beauty in interacting with the earth and nurturing plants. For many of us, in fact, gardening may be the place where we feel ‘most at home’ with ourselves and our place on this earth. Imagine what the world would be like if we could transmit this sense of awe to all human beings! To each one of you, a big ‘thank you’ for participating in KapliPRO this past year. We look forward to continuing our dialogues with you this coming year. Have a joyous, relaxing and reflective holiday season. And much new growth for all of us in 2008!
